Verify identities through automated IDV, eIDV and Liveness

An identity verification agent is a workflow component that can run different types of identity checks such as eIDV source verification, ID document verification, and liveness verification, and return a structured outcome, allowing consistent scoring and application. 

eIDV verifies identity attributes (like name, address, date of birth) against trusted data sources, while ID document verification assesses the authenticity of a government-issued document (e.g., passport, national ID, driver’s license). Both are identity verification methods, which have received wide recognition by regulators worldwide, and are used to streamline onboarding as they do not require human intervention in the identity verification process. 

Firms usually use liveness detection when they need assurance that the person undergoing the onboarding process / verification is real and present, and to help prevent spoofing attempts such as photos, video replays, or other presentation attacks.

Passive liveness evaluates signals without asking the user to perform actions, while active liveness uses prompts or challenge-response steps to increase confidence in higher-risk scenarios.

This depends on regulatory requirements, policies and risk scenarios. Usually, ID document verification is very sufficient and recognized by regulators worldwide, whereas liveness detection can add another level of assurance / bind the document to a live person. eIDV is used in order to speed the process even further - no-ID verification is often faster and provides optimal customer experience. 

The Muinmos platform applies transparent scoring methods powered by AI methods such as ML in order to adjudicate  verification outputs (e.g., document authenticity signals, face match confidence, liveness results). This produces consistent outcomes, and allows Muinmos clients to enable straight-through processing (STP). Meaning, accept applicants which passed the automated verifications without risk indicators. 

STP means eligible customers can be verified and approved end-to-end without manual intervention, while exceptions are automatically routed to additional checks or human review to maintain control. 

Common approaches include assisted capture (guiding users to take usable photos), allowing retakes when images are unclear, and using step-up logic (only adding extra checks when needed).

The Muinmos platform is GDPR compliant and ISO 27001 certified (information security). The data collected by the platform in connection with identity verifications includes identity attributes, document images, and selfie imagery. The data is stored in an encrypted area of the platform, which is only accessible to the firm collecting the data, which is the data controller, and not to anyone else.
